Agile Marketing

Agile marketing is an independent agency operating, on behalf of the publishing industry, to attach sponsors and media partners to specially created promotions that reach out to new readers.

Our aim is simply to get more people reading more books for more of their time. We’re unashamedly populist in outlook and unabashedly commercial to the benefit of all our participating partners.

Books are an important sector of the UK economy and hold a unique place in our cultural heritage and media attention.

Fiction Uncovered

Fiction Uncovered is a promotion that celebrates our best British fiction writers. The promotion is supported by Arts Council England and funded by the National Lottery. Fiction Uncovered creates the opportunity for eight British fiction writers (novels, short stories, graphic novels) to be part of a major promotion supported by retailers, and a publicity and marketing campaign. The eight titles for this year’s Fiction Uncovered 2013 will be selected by a judging panel chaired by Louise Doughty, and will be announced on 16th May 2013.

Fiction Uncovered also hosts a community website, which gives these eight selected writers – and an even broader group of writers through recommendation and endorsement – a chance to reach readers. The website also encourages contributors to uncover lost or forgotten fiction as well as new fiction.

New Books Magazine

newbooks, a bi-monthly magazine aimed at readers and reading groups, was first published in 2000. From the start the magazine has been a remarkable success, and with its genuinely unique selling proposition – the offer of free copies of each of the featured titles every issue* – newbooks has become a firm favourite with readers far and wide.

Having worked in publishing for over 20 years, publisher Guy Pringle recognised at the outset the growing influence of reading groups and the power of word-of-mouth recommendation in breaking new writing talent into the marketplace.

“By creating a ‘shop window’ for reading groups to gaze longingly into, and getting books into the hands of people who talk about them and recommend them to their friends, I knew that our proposition was a winner. Book publishers could see the value of a sampling exercise and it is acknowledged that books like Captain Corelli’s Mandolin achieved major success thanks to the word of mouth that reading groups represent. ”

newbooks magazine has played a major role in the success of books such as Salley Vickers’ Miss Garnet’s Angel, Jodi Piccoult’s My Sister’s Keeper, Alexander McCall Smith’s The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones and Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife.

* The books are genuinely free and you can have all, some, or none from each issue. All we ask is you cover our p&p costs.
